This week in music history: 17th April

April 17th, 1991, was the day that the legendary song Smells Like Teen Spirit was performed live by Nirvana for the first time ever. 24be3cd0b550d14375035de8c9c4c74c.1000x1000x1

Smells Like Teen Spirit is probably Nirvana’s most recognised and popular track from their short-lived career, and was no doubt the key to the success of the album Nevermind.

Nirvana appeared at the OK Hotel in Seattle, which was where they performed the-brand new song live for the first time.

Fast-forward to today, the club has now been turned into a residential property, but will still always be remembered for its musical history of the 90s. It also accommodated other local bands during its lifetime, such as Tad, Mudhoney and Soundgarden.

Here’s the official music video for the song to get your nostalgia going.
